What a root canal is

A root canal removes infected or inflamed tissue (the "pulp") from inside a tooth, then cleans, disinfects, and seals it. This relieves pain and stops the infection from spreading, while allowing you to keep your natural tooth rather than losing it.

When it's needed

Root canal treatment is typically recommended when a tooth's inner pulp becomes infected or inflamed — often from deep decay, a cracked tooth, or repeated dental procedures. Common signs include lingering tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling, or a darkening tooth.

A note on comfort

We know root canals have a reputation — but with modern anesthesia and technique, most patients say it feels no different from getting a filling. Our priority is making sure you're fully numb and comfortable throughout, and we're happy to talk through every step beforehand if that helps ease any nerves.
